Rumors of UFO sightings and aliens visiting this planet seem to be increasing, report Cui Jia and Wu Wencong in Beijing.
After 17 years of hard work, Xiang Kuansong has finally completed the "alien research station" he has been building in his village in Mayang county, Hunan province. The 79-year-old said he was told to build it by two beings from another planet.
"Don't be afraid. We are not ghosts or god. We are people from another planet who want to help you," the aliens allegedly told Xiang in Chinese.
Xiang's research station has none of the radio dishes and high-tech equipment that are usually associated with the search for extraterrestrial life. In fact, it looks more like a traditional Chinese temple, with a sign at the entrance that reads: "The harmonious way to a foreign planet".
The retired soldier said he first met the two aliens from the planet of "Dongsheng" in the late 1980s. They are about 1.95 meters tall and visit him quite often, wearing clothes that make them invisible but he can see them and communicate with them. The two "Dongshengians" asked him to build the station so they could have a place to rest during their trips to other planets, and so far he has spent 200,000 yuan (31,470) on their way station.
Inside there is a concrete model of a saucerlike spaceship, and stone tablets marking the spots where Xiang says the aliens talked to him are scattered around the compound.Although the other villagers believe Xiang is crazy, he just smiles and ignores their taunts.
UFO DETECTIVES
But even some of those who believe that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe pour scorn on those who claim to have been visited by aliens.
"I always turn my back on people who claim that they have seen aliens. Most of them have mental health problems," said Zhou Xiaoqiang, secretary-general of the Beijing UFO Research Organization, which was founded in 1983 and now has more than 100 members.
"If aliens visited earth, it doesn't make sense they would not make themselves known to all of us. These stories of meeting aliens are just unbelievable,' he said.
An increasing number of UFO sighting have been reported in China since 2011, but according to Zhou, such sightings are fueled by the media.
"People read about mysterious things or see television reports about such things and it fires their imagination," he said.
"The media have been reporting supposed UFO sightings for the past three or four years and they always mystify the incidents to grab people's attention. Meanwhile, people have become more interested in unsolved phonomena - I think it has something to do with the 2012 end of the world theory," said Zhou, who has been studying UFO sightings for more than 20 years.
Also, some people still try to manipulate others by claiming they are in contact with aliens, he said. "In the old days, such people would say that they could see and talk to ghosts. Nowadays, its aliens."
Zhou said the mission of his team is to simply identify what it is people have seen when there has been a UFO sighting.
"We investigate the circumstances and analyze the evidence. We are more like detectives," he said.
The Beijing UFO Research Organization has received 14 detailed reports of UFO sightings in Beijing so far this year. All of them have been identified as kites with lights, aircraft or insects.
According to Zhou, the majority of UFO sightings are reported during public holidays in big cities or scenic spots.
CHINA'S ROSWELL
Zhu Jin, curator of the Beijing Planetarium, also believes intelligent life probably does exist elsewhere in the universe, but says that most "sightings" of UFOs have nothing to do with aliens from another planet.
"Chinese people love to associate UFOs with alien spaceships. But all UFO sightings can be explained by natural phenomena, man-made objects, illusions or hoaxes. Aliens might not even need a spaceship to travel to earth."
In the most recent UFO sighting to grab the public's attention, Li Hui told the media of the UFO she saw at Fenghuang Mountain, a scenic spot in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province.
On the afternoon of July 8, Li, a local tourist, claimed she had seen a flying object faintly glowing on the opposite mountain when she finished posing for photos at one of the viewing platforms. She said the object had already disappeared when she took off her sunglasses for a clearer view, but its image had been caught on camera.
Most media showed a cropped version of the photo, which showed a glowing oval with two bright "wings". But the original photo, which was obtained by a reporter from Harbin Daily, shows that Li is the subject of the photo and the "glowing" object is on the left side of the photo.
On July 13, five days after the incident, Xi Wang, a doctoral candidate in bioscience at the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, posted a photo of a hoverfly, which was clearly similar to Li's UFO.
Xi told China Daily that considering her major and personal interests, she is very familiar with the flying posture of the insect.
"It looks more like sensationalizing the scenic spot to me," said Xi. "I understand UFO fans' enthusiasm, and personally I also believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life in such a big universe, but we need to investigate and analyze every incident carefully before coming to a conclusion."
Other netizens also pointed out that judging from the size of the object in the photo, if it really was an alien spaceship more people would have noticed it as it would have been about 1 kilometer long.
But despite all the doubts, UFO researchers and enthusiasts rushed to Fenghuang Mountain, because this is not the first time the mountain has been linked with UFOs and extraterrestrial beings. It is known as China's Roswell because of the many UFO sightings that have been reported there.
LOVING THE ALIEN
In June 1994, a local farmer claimed he had seen a shining white "metal monster" when he was out picking wild plants on the mountain. Meng Zhaoguo became famous throughout the country after he claimed he'd had sex with a female alien three times. Once at the landing site and twice at his house the same night. The alien then told him that she would have his child once she returned to her planet.
Meng, now 45, later told local governmental officials that about a month after his amorous adventures with the alien, he was invited to her spacecraft, where a male extraterrestrial spoke to him in his dialect.
"Sixty years from now, the son of a farmer from the Earth will be born on our planet," the alien told him.
Since then the mountain has been a popular destination for UFO enthusiasts.
"There is nothing wrong with using UFO sightings to attract tourists. It might even be a good thing because it might make people more interested in exploring the unknown," said Zhou Xiaoqiang of the Beijing UFO Research Organization.
But Wang Sichao, a scientist at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, which is run by Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that people should not be so quick to dismiss all sightings of UFOs as illusions or publicity ploys. He believes that there have been more than a dozen genuine sightings of alien spacecraft in China.
He files unexplained UFO sightings into two categories: those that lack details, so that it is difficult to say what they really are, and those that are detailed, but they still can't be explained. These, he says, could be genuine sightings of alien spaceships.
"People should not underestimate the power of aliens. Although there is no evidence that they are harmful to people," he said.

My house has been very active for 2 months now. I see movement every day and night, and it would seem like someone has offloaded their entire zoo onto the earth. The first photo I got was of something with glowing eyes and no body. Then I started getting pics of gray shafts of...smoke(?), which, once I started getting better pics of them, turned out to be tubes that end on a dime, distinctly, as if they have gone into a wall that I am unable to see. Also, every single pic I take outside has a big blue beam going right down the center. Last week I took a close-up pic of the screen on my porch, where one of the "eyes" always appears, and in the pic you can see a tiny orange dot, and a wire going in and out, so I know this is at least part fraud, but very much NOT a nickel-and-dime operation. The light and the wire are almost impossibly tiny. There have been military helicopters flying over my house. One night about a month ago I took a night walk in my neighborhood and saw a man, who was about 95% invisible. It was exactly like one You Tube video I saw; a US soldier running back into the tank, and he was wearing something that made him almost invisible. I have reached out for help from many many people and organizations and have not gotten a single email back, out of maybe 20. As an expiriment I posted an ad on Craigs List, titled Project Blue Beam, and wrote all about it and said Email me for pics. Zero responses. Every time I try to call MUFON or other orgs I get a recording, This number is no longer in service etc.... I don't know if I am NASAs guinea pig, or if something big is really about to happen. What I read about Blue Beam is exactly what is happening here; lots and lots of demonic imagery. I am desperate for help. Please call me. I know many of my emails are not getting through, and I don't expect this to either, so the phone is the best bet maybe. This is a legitimate SOS. Lovell scoffed at the assertion as completely unfounded."It is regrettable that, after 80 years of effort on the part of Historical Society volunteers, the two weekend 'ghost tours' have left misunderstanding and misinterpretation in the minds of our community," Lovell wrote in a terse letter to news media organizations. During the past 4 weeks, the Unexplained Mysteries Forum has been discussing the Echo Flight incident. It's been a lively discussion and for the most part has been interesting so far as the subtopics that were raised. In the end, the question (for some) still remain whether a UFO caused the flight's missile guidance systems to shut down.
For those not familiar with the case, on 16 March 1967, Malmstrom AFB's Echo Flight sustained a full flight shutdown of all 10 of it's ICBMs. An indepth investigation would eventually lead to the conclusion that a "noise" pulse was generated from the Launch Control Center that affect the ICBM missile guidance system.
The then on duty deputy missile launch commander, Walter Figel, would later state to Robert Hastings and Robert Salas that he had received a report from a missile maintenance team or a security guard that a UFO was seen hovering above one of the flight's Launch Facilities, thus driving the debate.
A portion of the discussion on UM's forum centered around the statements given by Walter Figel in two interviews given to Hastings and Salas. For some, this is proof positive that a UFO had caused the missile shutdowns. My counter argument has always been that Figel gave two completely different versions of the supposedly event. The version given to Hastings is different from that given to Salas. This renders Walter Figel's statements irrelevant and suspect...in my opinion.
As I've stated on this blog on numerous occasions, the 341st Strategic Missile Wing's unit history and the subsequent engineering investigation and analysis do not mention any maintenance/security teams on any of the launch facilities which cast further doubt on the statements given by Walter Figel.
Another area of interest that was discussed was a section of the unit history that mentions that "the rumors of UFOs were disproven..." This brings up an interesting point of discussion, as the unit history references the paragraph to the engineering report. Someone had to have provided details as to why UFO rumors were "disproven" and I seriously doubt that it was the engineering task group that did so. This may have lead to the input of LtCol Lewis Chase, the base UFO officer.
Of special note, Chase never elevated Echo Flight to Project Blue Book for an investigation, nor is there any evidence that Blue Book personnel tasked Chase to conduct an investigation. But the questions remains where did the "rumors of UFO's were disproven" come from. Some on the UM forum speculate that a separate investigation was ensued based on the supplanting of AFR 200-2 with AFR 80-17 in Sept 1966. Again, this may have been true, but as of yet nothing has surfaced to validate these claims.
To understand AFR 80-17, we have to look at the program objectives:
2. Program Objectives. Air Force interest in UFOs is two-fold: to determine if the UFO is a possible threat to the United states and to use the scientific and technical data gained from study of UFO reports. To attain these objectives, it is necessary to explain or identify the stimulus which caused the observer to report his observation as an unidentified flying object. a. Air Defence. The majority of UFOs reported to the Air Force have been conventional or
familiar objects which pose no threat to our security. (1) It may be possible that foreign countries may develop flying vehicles of revolutionary
configuration or propulsion. (2) Frequently, some alleged UFOs are determined to be aircraft. Air Defence Command
(ADC) is responsible for identification of aircraft. Except as aircraft are determined to be
the stimulus for a UFO report, aircraft are not to be reported under the provisions of this
regulation. b. Technical and Scientific. The Air Force will analyze reports of UFOs submitted to it to attain
the program objectives. In this connection these facts are of importance: (1) The need for further scientific knowledge in geophysics, astronomy and physics of the
upper atmosphere which may be provided by study and analysis of UFOs and similar aerial
phenomena. (2) The need to report all pertinent factors that have a direct bearing on scientific analysis and
conclusions of UFO sightings. (3) The need and the importance of complete case information. Analysis has explained all but a
small percentage of the sightings which have been reported to the Air Force. The ones that
have not been explained are carried statistically as "unidentified." Because of the human
factors involved and because of analysis of a UFO sightings depends on a personal
interpretation by the observer rather than on scientific data or facts obtained under
controlled conditions, the elimination of all unidentifieds is improbable. However, if more
immediate, detailed and objective data on the unidentifieds that have been available and
promptly reported, perhaps these too, could have been identified.
Based on the above, it would appear that the primary focus was to identify UFOs with the purpose of ascertaining if foreign countries had developed technologies that would have allowed incursion into the United States posing as possible security threats. This would make sense due to a then expanding Soviet capability and threat to our national resources.
But where does Echo Flight fit into this scenario? Again, we go back to AFR 80-17:
c. Investigation. Each commander of an Air Force Base will provide a UFO investigative
capability. When notice of a UFO sighting is received, an investigation will be implemented to
determine if the stimulus for the sighting.
The question for consideration: was there a notice of a UFO sighting? We simply don't know for sure if Walter Figel's alleged report from the flight area would have stimulated an investigation, because it is unknown prior to his decades later interviews that he had ever told anyone his story. The crew commander Eric Carlson stated in an interview with Ryan Dube, that there was never any mentioning of UFOs during the shutdown event. Plus, no eyewitness has ever come forward to validate Figel's initial claims. If there are no witnesses that had visual observation, then there is no reason to investigate.
Yet, there were rumors of UFOs, and these rumors permeate the narratives of Henry Barlow, LtCol Arneson, and Robert Jamison, though none of these individuals saw anything themselves. The local newspaper was awash with UFO reports. And it stands to reason that these accumulated rumors would have drifted to the investigation team.
Despite all that was discussed, I've yet to see any persuasive argument to alter my views. The cause of the noise pulse came from the Launch Control Center and traveled via the HICS cabling system to each Launch Facility, thus causing the missile guidance systems to enter into a "controlled" shutdown.
There remains no credible or verifiable evidence to support a UFO causation be it ET or a foreign source.
