I witnessed on several occasions brilliant balls of light in the night sky over Big Hawk Lake north of Minden in the late 90's. One time a friend and I saw a solid white light moving then stopping, moving then stopping all the way across the lake. It was barely above the tree tops. A month later several of us witnessed a similar light making sharp angle turns high in the sky before shooting off in a southern direction.

Other cottagers on the lake have also reported similar sightings including an elderly couple I have known for years who woke up to bright white light filling their cottage bedroom. They went to the window and watched a ball of white light move through the trees and out over the lake. Another sighting was told to me by my neighbor who was up alone late in the year and he witnessed a bright white light zigzagging across the lake. In the 1940s, Walter M. Elsasser proposed the model of dynamo theory, which attributes Earth's magnetic field to the motion of Earth's iron outer core. Through the use of magnetometers, scientists were able to study the variations in Earth's magnetic field as functions of both time and latitude and longitude. Beginning in the late 1940s, rockets were used to study cosmic rays. In 1958, Explorer 1, the first of the Explorer series of space missions, was launched to study the intensity of cosmic rays above the atmosphere and measure the fluctuations in this activity. This mission observed the existence of the Van Allen radiation belt (located in the inner region of Earth's magnetosphere), with the Explorer 3 mission later that year definitively proving its existence. Also in 1958, Eugene Parker proposed the idea of the solar wind. In 1959, the term magnetosphere was proposed by Thomas Gold. The Explorer 12 mission in 1961 led to the observation by Cahill and Amazeen in 1963 of a sudden decrease in the strength of the magnetic field near the noon meridian, later named the magnetopause. In 1983, the International Cometary Explorer observed the magnetotail, or the distant magnetic field.

TYPES OF MAGNETOSPHERES

The structure and behavior of magnetospheres is dependent on several variables: the type of astronomical object, the nature of sources of plasma and momentum, the period of the object's spin, the nature of the axis whereabout the object spins, the axis of the magnetic dipole, and the magnitude and direction of the velocity of the flow of solar wind.

The distance at which a planet can withstand the solar wind pressure is called the Chapman-Ferraro distance. This is modeled by a formula wherein represents the radius of the planet, represents the magnetic field on the surface of the planet at the equator, and represents the velocity of the solar wind.

A magnetosphere is classified as "intrinsic" when, or when the primary opposition to the flow of solar wind is the magnetic field of the object. Mercury, Earth, Jupiter, Ganymede, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune exhibit intrinsic magnetospheres. A magnetosphere is classified as "induced" when, or when the solar wind is not opposed by the object's magnetic field. In this case, the solar wind interacts with the atmosphere or ionosphere of the planet (or surface of the planet, if the planet has no atmosphere). Venus has an induced magnetic field. What this means is that because Venus appears to have no internal dynamo effect, the only magnetic field present is that formed by the solar wind's wrapping around the physical obstacle of Venus (see also Venus' Induced Magnetosphere). UFO SIGHTING IN MILFORD TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN ON OCTOBER 8TH 2013 - MOTHER SHIP HOVERING. MANY ORBS FLYING AROUND.

On Oct. 8th. 2013 at approx. 8:15pm saw a bright object below the crescent moon. Then observed several orbs brightly lit around the bright object. Drove towards Milford on Pontiac trail and stopped at a field in Wixom, exited the vehicle and stood in a field and watched for approx. a half hour as what I would describe as the mother ship hovered in position while as many as ten different orbs would fly around it. There was a large amount of planes and helicopters around this area. I watched as the mothership would descend in the flash of a second and then hover stationary. Many little orbs (they looked about the size and brightness of a satellite ) flew around the mothership (usually in pairs of two or three) A second witness that was also looking at ufo stated that it appears two of the ships were firing at each other via a beam of light. I looked to the north where ships were reported as shooting at each other. I observed the orbs in question but did not observe any shooting of rays. i observed orbs get brighter then disappear in a flash. When I looked where the mothership was.... it was gone. The incident lasted about forty minutes. It did appear as if the u.f.o's were engaging each other or engaging planes and helicopters in the vicinity. A poster from Royal Oak ( several cities east of my location) stated he watched what appeared to be a helicopter shoot down a ufo that fell from the sky. around same time frame. Drove west of my location from Wixom to Milford trying to observe more. But to no avail. When I returned home I observed a very low flying airplane (just above tree line) never saw a plane flying that low. The whole event was quite amazing.

Ray Wallace Mark Chorvinsky A Look Back

More than ten years ago or so, when I was in the folklore graduate program at the University of Oregon, I made copies of any references to Bigfoot that I came across in the archives. I just found in my files notes about a field work project done by a student in the 1970s where Ray Wallace (April 21, 1918 - November 26, 2002) is mentioned. I have the original paper somewhere, but can't seem to find it; when I do, I'll post more about this.

Wallace of course was the man who "killed Bigfoot" -- upon Wallace's death,it was revealed he faked giant BF footprints and family members ran around in BF costumes. This, according to much of media and the uber-skeptic, "proved" that there was no such thing as Bigfoot; it was all just Ray Wallace, having a huge joke on the rest of us. But according to some accounts, Wallace had researched Bigfoot quite a bit in his day. He collected tales of Bigfoot from many sources, including many Native American Bigfoot tales. There is a reference in a student folklore field research paper to an informant named Kenny Spencer of Toledo, Oregon, who:

read in his forestry book at Pacific Lutheran University that Tom Slick (oil millionaire and Bigfoot researcher) and Ray Wallace were classed as authorities on Bigfoot as they have done more research on Bigfoot than anyone in the world. (Layton)

According to this report, Wallace:

bought a diary from an old miner's grandson in Eureka, California (Joe Ellison) that tells about three, giant-sized, hairy people that used to attack Indians and the miners in 1849. (Layton)

Wallace was clearly aware of Bigfoot tales, and was interested enough to collect them. It seems that at that time and in that area, at least, Wallace had a reputation for knowing about Bigfoot, enough to get him mentioned as someone who has done "more research on Bigfoot than anyone in the world."

Linda Layton's student report contains several short tales told by Wallace about Bigfoot sightings, encounters and captures.

Wallace's contributions to Bigfoot research were ignored by almost all in the field, according to the late Fortean writer and Strange magazine publisher Mark Chorvinsky, who passed away in 2005. In a 1994 article for Strange, Chorvinsky wonders why this was, and asks if the photo (shown here) was of a real Bigfoot, or a "guy in a suit." Wallace had sent the photo to Strange editor Mark Opsasnick; Wallace would not reveal the name of the person who took the photograph:

As to Wallace's contributions to Bigfoot research, Chorvinsky cites Opsasnick:

Bigfoot expert Mark Opsasnick, author of The Bigfoot Digest, opines that, "If one does objective research into the origin of Bigfoot, it is obvious that the role Wallace played in the creation and development of Bigfoot cannot be ignored. He was there when the term 'Bigfoot' originated in 1958 as an important player in the case surrounding Jerry Crew, and Roger Patterson consulted with him repeatedly. This is a fact ignored by the contemporary Bigfoot investigators." Opsasnick concludes that, "It is quite conceivable that if there had been no Ray Wallace, there would be no Bigfoot as we know it today.
