SPOOKED residents have reported seeing mysterious UFOs in the skies above Harborough and Lutterworth, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.
A large black triangular aircraft with three bright lights was spotted above Harborough's skies at 2pm on Friday, January 9, 2004, according to MoD documents disclosed under the Freedom of Information Act (FoI).
The strange object was also said to have made a rumbling noise.
It is not the first time mysterious objects have been spotted in Harborough's heavens, but it is the first time the existence of such sightings being logged in Government files has come to light.
In 1996 and 1997 scores of people reported seeing strange objects in Harborough in nine separate incidents. About three years later, in 2000, there were three more reports of UFO sightings.
The MoD said a witness also spotted a UFO with flashing lights in Lutterworth on Monday, September 20, 2004.
UFO enthusiast Gary Anthony (40), of East Yorkshire, who submitted the initial FoI requests to the MoD, said: "In 95 per cent of cases UFO reports can be put down to a natural or explainable phenomenon. In other incidents, there seems to be no rational explanation. I am not saying it's alien spaceships or flying saucers but these people have obviously felt scared enough to report the incidents to the MoD."
Insp Mick Norman, of Harborough police, said: "People do occasionally report this type of incident to the police as a first port of call.
"Our response is very much dictated by what the individual thinks they have seen. "People can be confused sometimes when aircraft is heading in their direction because it can appear as if the lights are remaining static, when in fact they are moving very quickly."

He points out that he used only the most credible cases from highly-reliable witnesses.
At 98 pages in length, the book gets to the point and reports facts and witness accounts in ways that are convincing and very interesting.
SIGHTING AND ENCOUNTER CASES
Most of the book is structured with chapters focusing on each of the 16 cases, although Lovern includes relevant background material at the beginning and end of the book.
In "Sighting One," 18-year-old Dave, who would later be drafted for the Vietnam War, spots a large somewhat triangular UFO while hunting in the woods. Years later, he has another surprising encounter and may have experienced "missing time."
"Sighting Two" tells the story of a couple, Bill and Jane, who see a large cigar-shape object. At the same time, their truck engine and electrical system malfunction mysteriously.
In "Sighting Three," readers learn about the story of a Walt, a man who was 6 years old in 1952 when a bright multi-colored UFO hovered over his rural home. Although his mother witnessed it too, his father seemed in a daze of some kind and did not respond to the extraordinary event.
The sixteen cases are all unique in various ways.

Some alien worlds might look like they're capable of hosting life as we know it on Earth, but in reality, these "mirage planets" might have burned away those chances for life, scientists think.
Thus, these mirage planets may make it more difficult for scientists to find genuine signs of extraterrestrial life if it exists elsewhere in the universe, new research shows.
In the past 20 years or so, astronomers have confirmed the existence of more than 1,800 planets around distant stars, and may soon prove that thousands more of these alien worlds exist. Of special interest are exoplanets in habitable zones, the regions around stars just warm enough for worlds to possess liquid water on their surfaces, as there is life virtually everywhere liquid water is found on Earth.
The search for extraterrestrial life often focuses on red dwarfs, also known as M dwarf stars, which are the most common type of star in the universe. Red dwarfs are up to 50 times dimmer than the sun, which means their habitable zones are much closer than Earth is to the sun.

Now, computer simulations have revealed that some planets around red dwarf stars may have had all of their water burned away in their youth but still look as though they might be inhabited by life.
Stars form when giant clouds of interstellar gas collapse. Because red dwarfs have low masses and, therefore, weaker gravitational fields, they take longer to fully collapse than stars like the sun, "on the order of many hundreds of millions of years," said lead study author Rodrigo Luger, an astrobiologist at the University of Washington in Seattle.
In their early years, red dwarfs can be tens, or even hundreds, of times brighter than they are later in their lives. "Planets around these stars can form within 10 million years, so they are around when the stars are still extremely bright," Luger said. "And that's not good for habitability, since these planets are going to initially be very hot, with surface temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees Celsius [1,832 degrees Fahrenheit]. When this happens, your oceans boil and your entire atmosphere becomes steam."
At the same time, although red dwarfs become dim, much of the light they do emit comes in the form of ultraviolet light and X-rays. This high-energy radiation can split up water into its component hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The lighter hydrogen escapes the atmosphere more easily, leaving the heavier oxygen atoms behind. This effect can lead to atmospheres with "many thousands of times more oxygen than that in Earth's atmosphere," Luger told Space.com.
These findings suggest that even if a distant planet is too dry to host life as it is known on Earth, it may possess a great deal of oxygen - "so much that you'd expect it to be detectable, potentially confounding our search for life on these planets, since oxygen is usually thought of as a tracer of life," Luger said.
As such, these worlds may essentially be "mirage planets."
"Because of the oxygen they build up, they could look a lot like Earth from afar, but if you look more closely, you'll find that they're really a mirage - there's just no water there," Luger added. "So, not only are these planets uninhabitable, but they can actually trick us into thinking they're inhabited."
The scientists noted that, although the processes they discussed "threaten the habitability of planets around low-mass stars, it certainly does not rule it out," Luger said. "There's just so much we don't understand about habitability and the origin of life that it would be premature to draw any strong conclusions."
Still, Luger said the study is "a cautionary tale. Terrestrial planet evolution around low-mass stars is very different," he said, "and we need to keep that in mind when trying to assess a given planet's potential for hosting life."
Future research can aim to confirm these findings by looking for oxygen onexoplanets in the habitable zones of distant stars. However, this will have to wait "at least until the James Webb Space Telescope is launched in a few years," Luger said. "But may take even longer," he added. "It's just a really hard observation to make."
Luger and his colleague Rory Barnes will detail their findings in the February issue of the journal Astrobiology.

We asked each other "is it going to crash" because it was so low to the ground and flying in such a strange patter, it looked like it was falling up and down and catching itself in the air. In a well-publicized statement he wrote: My first thought was since I would be asked my views, as the first civilian investigator of the Roswell crashed saucer event, it would be nice to have first hand [sic] information.... So I read as much as I could, positive and negative. I have not held copies of the slides. I could find no convincing information that there is any connection between the slides and Roswell. How would an outsider gain access to the real bodies?... I have seen no specific data to convince me these are phony. But that doesn't establish a connection to the Roswell events.... But I don't want to appear to add legitimacy by my presence in Mexico City in the absence of serious evidence of the slides being what is being claimed they are. Absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence...Overlooking the fact that what is claimed without proof can be denied without proof, Friedman's statement sums up the situation as most of us understand it. There is no proof that the creature in the slide is alien or from the Roswell crash. There seems to be no solid evidence that the slides were made in 1947, near Roswell or who took the pictures. There are too many loose ends in this and unless they can be cleared up, this will end badly for those involved, something that Friedman seems to understand.
Don Schmitt, once Friedman made his position clear, issued his own statement. He said that Friedman had been offered an opportunity to review all their information including, if I understood it correctly, a chance to see high quality copies of the slides. Friedman didn't take this opportunity, which seems a little strange. He certainly could have looked at the slides and received his briefing, unless it was tied to an agreement to attend the Mexico City presentation.
At any rate it would seem strange that Friedman, who has endorsed the nonsensical Aztec UFO crash and continues to endorse the long discredited MJ-12 documents, would pass up this opportunity. I think that says something about the slides themselves and the situation around them.
Paul Kimball, a nephew of Friedman's by marriage (if I have that relation right) talked to his uncle about this because some thought the statement hadn't been issued by Friedman. Friedman confirmed that he would not be among those in Mexico City. In this case, it seems that Friedman understands the real consequences of involvement in Mexico City and was wise enough to avoid it.

All of the possibilities have implications. Let's face it: we have basically scared ourselves silly with our own cute stories. Very seldom are extraterrestrials happy, helpful visitors. The human imagination thrives on drama and there is much more drama in nasty aliens than kind extraterrestrials. And as I have stated before, either extreme is a rather na"ive view of the possibilities. Extraterrestrials would most likely be at least as complex as us in political, social and scientific ways. Certainly if there is more than one other known, intelligent civilization out there, the political systems and social interactions are bound to be extremely complex.
Stealth is important. It plays into our fears of manipulation and aggressive actions. It also is necessary to explain why we haven't seen extraterrestrials yet, and still claim they exist. So, in a sense, except for scenario one (they don't exist at all) stealth may be the biggest question.
Okay, so now I admit I have managed to contradict myself when it comes to stealth. Earlier this week I spoke of a suggestion for our extraterrestrial visitors: use stealth technology until you are ready for First Contact. However, if you go back a few months you'll notice I reference stealth in something I call the original requests. Simply put, these are requests we would need to make of any extraterrestrial visitors:
-No use of stealth or cloaking technology for any space or aircraft in Earth atmosphere or our solar system.
-No craft visiting Earth without permission.
-No contact with other humans without approval of the United Nations or assigned governing body.
-A promise of non-interference in Earth governments and other social systems.
I suppose it may sounds like a contradiction, but I believe both things to be important. Extraterrestrials will need to use stealth leading up to First Contact. Starting with the revelation of First Contact those same extraterrestrials would have to promise never to use stealth technology again. In a sense, stealth use before First Contact is entirely necessary and after First Contact it is absolutely unacceptable.
Why so?
It comes down to trust. In fact the entire basis of First Contact and the development of a new relationship with an extraterrestrial civilization is based on trust. We trust that they are being honest with us. We trust that they are not trying to manipulate us for their own reasons. We trust that they will be honest and open with us about all previous contact and any potential manipulation that may have occurred in the past.
This won't be easy.
You can imagine the UFO hunters, alien abduction claimants and many others would demand answers. And given the attention they have garnered here on Earth, some rational explanation will be important for the start of a proper relationship after First Contact.
We, the human race, tend to be a jumpy bunch. If extraterrestrials do not use stealth when observing us, or somehow come barreling into our atmosphere unannounced, we'll likely have a hostile reception waiting.
I think in the end it comes down to our rights. We have been establishing over the last few thousand years the concept of rights for humans here on Earth. In that same respect we have to consider the rights of humans when coming into contact with outside civilizations. I came up with these basic ideas, just to get the ball rolling.
Declaration of Human Rights:
1. Humans have the right to self-determination.
2. Humans have a right to not be manipulated by other civilizations.
3. Humans have a right not to have the pillars of human society manipulated by other civilizations, including economy, technology, and civic arrangements.
4. The planet Earth is the sacred home of human beings.
5. Life on Earth should not be interfered with or manipulated by outside beings.
6. Humans have a right to determine how First Contact proceeds.
7. Humans can determine how much information and what type of information they decide to receive about the outside universe.
8. The resources of the planet Earth are the property of citizens of Earth.
9. The solar system of Earth is the property and home of citizens of Earth.
10. Earthlings can decide which beings can enter the solar system and under what conditions.
11. Earthlings can decide which beings can enter Earth atmosphere and under what conditions.
12. Humans will enter into the larger known universe as productive and responsible citizens.
13. Humans will decide exactly how that entry into the larger known universe proceeds.
14. Humans will expect honesty from all parties interacting with the citizens of planet Earth.
15. Humans will demand honesty and forthright disclosure of any past interactions between alien civilizations and people of the planet Earth.
One final note: I talk here only of human rights, but who is to say extraterrestrial visitors will think that only humans deserve rights? They could believe in rights for all animal life. Who knows, maybe all plant life as well? That's right, get ready PETA, maybe someday you'll have a whole new category of celebrity spokesperson: the spokesalien. I look forward to the ads.
First Contact Extraterrestrial Alien Proposal Idea Hello Introduction Space Visitors
When I first began this series of blog posts my intent was to show you how aliens and UFO's represent a larger subject that myths and conspiracy theories have talked about for thousands of years. For instance, there is an old European myth that if you look though a keyhole, you will see a ghost. If the ghost looks at you right back as you are doing this, you will die.
The point of the myth is to keep people from looking through keyholes...it's damn rude. Beyond that, there's no real construct behind the myth. It wasn't created to explain anything. No one looked through a keyhole, saw something weird, and dropped dead.
In contrast, stories of giant sea monsters have persisted as long as men have sailed the seven seas. Legends of ancient mariners sighting humongous ocean creatures that devour men and even whole ships. Why? Because the ocean is full of large beasts that were a threat to people and boats.
Great white sharks, whales, giant squid...whatever, it's out there. Boats vanished. Sailors fell into the ocean and were devoured. Men on ships looked out into the sea and saw strange, strange things and decided that out thar be giant sea monsters, matey, go no further.
My point is that the current concept of greys, aliens, UFO's, flying saucers, etc. is a label for a phenomena that has existed since the dawn of human civilization and beyond. Of course, to strengthen this hypothesis it is necessary to use logic to do so.
That's why I suddenly started bouncing around history while mentioning things like informal fallacies and formal logical arguments. An Argument by Authority is a good basis for proving that there's something up with aliens and UFO's if people who are very qualified are the ones reporting them...people like military officials, highly trained military and non-military pilots, ancient historians, Alexander the Great, normal, sober people with absolutely no reason to report UFO's and aliens...you get it.
I also talked about logic because I wanted you to understand the concept of an Argument by Example. Over and over again, we see constant, reoccurring facts and circumstances that repeat themselves, often across vast gulfs of time, geography, circumstance and subjectivity. Different people from different places from different points in history, from vary different circumstances, all tend to report the same behavior. What's going on, here?
Let's say your Uncle Larry had left you millions in his will, but the both of you got into a drunken argument over soccer and he declared that he was going to cut you out, which means you'd lose that millions. To keep your uncle from calling a lawyer in the morning, you grab his.38, shoot him dead, attempt to make the whole scene look like a robbery gone wrong, and sneak home.
Unfortunately for you, modern criminal science is pretty thorough. Police detectives show up, find the body, find the pistol, send it to a forensics expert that finds your thumbprint on the barrel. They also find DNA evidence on the glass of whiskey you were drinking out of.
They also talk to eyewitnesses who all theorize that you might have killed your Uncle Larry, or who have facts that lead up to the conclusion. It turns out your Uncle Larry had already called an attorney to arrange the affair. A neighbor next door heard your loud argument. A jogger saw you leave the home acting suspiciously.
Finally, it turns out that a servant was downstairs, and he heard the argument, saw you go down the hall where the pistol was stored, saw you walk back down the hall, heard the gunshot, and then saw you leave.
The servant didn't see you commit the murder, but there's enough there for any court room in America to go on. The detective and the DA would get a pretty clear case that any jury could understand.
Aside from everyone having the same theory, that you shot poor, old Uncle Larry, your argument that it was the servant would hold no water because of forensics experts brought in on the case and the DNA you left all over when you fired the pistol.
The DA would know that the servant could have done it because modern forensics is powerfully accurate. At that point a lot of the case would boil down to your opinion versus the what the servant said.
But forensics experts could point out that cordite residue was found on your hand, blood was found on your shirt, DNA evidence was in the whiskey glass, and aside from that, everyone who declared you that you were in the perfect place to commit the murder were in the perfect place themselves to notice where you were at the time the murder happened.
Even the attorney's testimony, that your Uncle Larry suggested that you'd kill for your money, would be included in the court case against you.
The final nail in the proverbial coffin is that all of the witnesses would probably have statements that tend to describe you in the same way. If you were a white guy with dark brown hair wearing jeans and a black shirt, all of the witnesses would probably describe you the same way to the police.
If Uncle Larry told the attorney an evil clown with blue hair attacked him, and the servant reported that bigfoot walked down the stairs after he heard the gunshot, and a neighbor told the police he saw an attractive Swedish woman dressed like a cheerleader leave the house, the accusation just wouldn't look good to the jury. It's simply a stronger case if everyone involved describes the killer in the same way.
You can see how logic is applicable across a wide spectrum, whether it's related to the legal justice system, science or conspiracy theories. If you stick to the facts, keep an open mind and apply logic and reason, there's enough data out there to infer plenty from the UFO phenomena, without acting like everything related to aliens and flying saucers is purely for the loons.
However, there are plenty of loons on the Internet who are into UFO's, aliens, flying saucers and more. All the logic we went over earlier can help us filter out those weirdos too, but we must also understand the the Powers That Be, the People On Top who tell the rest of us losers how to suck it, they have expressed a vested interest in hiding the truth.
These government types also tend to control the distribution of information, including what's "officially true" and what's not, so we have to understand that as we explore the subject, there are lot of people doing their best to screw up the exploration...and sometimes they even kill the explorers to keep their secrets.
Now we're just going to talk about UFO's, aliens and all of that fun stuff. I'm going to bounce around here and there so don't expect me to keep going from WWII on in a manner that follows a timeline. What I'm going to do is take an aspect of the subject, show it to you, and attempt to infer the greater truth from that example, in the way that a detective can figure out a lot about a pistol from studying the bullet it fired. In that way, we can build our overall case and come to a decision.
But remember, in the words of Carl Sagan, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Until a fleet of flying saucers start flying around Washington, D.C. in full view of the entire city, it's pretty hard to believe that reports of UFO's are anything but delusional fantasies. We all want physical, concrete evidence, not words on a computer screen.
Ok, let's talk about foo fighters.
SECTION II: WORLD WAR II, THE FOO FIGHTERS, AND BEYOND
At the end of WWII many of the Allied Forces engaged in the conflict noticed a lot of spooky, unexplained things going on all around them. After the fight was over, soldiers, officers and intelligence types from both sides compared notes and realized that each two major groups fighting each other, the Axis and the Allies, saw a lot of the same things without knowing what they were looking at. It wasn't just the British pilots who saw strange lights following their planes, Italian and German pilots saw them, too.
After babbling to you for many paragraphs about logic, legal argumentation, police investigations and such, you can apply the same attitude (if you want) to World War II and the foo fighters (also known as "kraut fireballs"). One one hand, the conflict involved weapons, flying vehicles and aerial combat on a level never seen before that point in the modern era. Bullets, bombs, rockets, missiles, planes, jet planes, guys in parachutes throwing hand grenades, experimental weaponry, you got it...that's what was flying through the air above Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia and more during World War II. Of course there were reports of UFO's during that time.
Going further, at the beginning of the war we were using some pretty impressive artillery. The Nazi's had started creating all sorts of new ordinance that was beyond the toys everyone tossed at each other during World War I. We started with mortar shells and by the end we were using atomic weaponry. Of course anyone looking up in the sky at that time would have felt like they were watching a sci-fi fireworks display.
On the other hand, the personnel that witnessed the UFO's during World War II were highly qualified, extremely experienced, trained and technologically astute individuals. Military training is hard, and people who have that training can stay cool under combat conditions and still be aware of their surroundings in a somewhat sophisticated manner. What I mean is, a fighter pilot (or other military personnel) with years of experience can look over and tell if he sees an enemy plane, a friendly aircraft, a sun dog, weaponry or a weird ball of WTF?
So the people reporting the UFO's weren't just uneducated rednecks and some delusional amateurs. If brought on to the witness stand to corroborate eyewitness testimony about flying saucers, the court (and the jury) would give a lot of weight to their experiences and what they said about what they saw.
The term "foo fighters" actually originated from an expression used by the American P-61 Black Widow night fighter aircraft pilots to describe the weird, strange orbs, lights and other shapes that they saw while running missions in the dark sky over Europe during World War II. Pilots reported being followed by these lights, and even shooting at them with their weapons without effect. During that time a comic strip known as Smokey Stover was popular, so when the term was used in the strip it became popular, and now the word foo fighters is still around, although the slang term has since been retired and replaced with the term, "UFO's."
One night while cruising the Indian Ocean on September 1941 the crew aboard the S.S. Pulaski, a vessel that was being used by the British military to transport soldiers from Durban, South Africa to Suez, Egypt, saw a strange, luminescent object following their ship some 5,000 feet in the air. Crew member Mar Daroba described it as, "some strange globe glowing with greenish light, about half the size of the full moon, as it appears to us."
The object followed the ship for a half an hour and then abruptly vanished.
On February 26, 1942 the cruiser Tromp of the Royal Netherlands Navy, while going across the Timor Sea near New Guinea, had a similar experience. Crew member William J. Methorst. Later, in 1957 he reported the following in an official address to the Victorian Flying Saucer Research Society of Melbourne, Australia, that:
"While on watch for enemy aircraft just after noon, I was scanning the skies with binoculars when suddenly I saw a large illuminated disc approaching at terrific speed 4,000 or 5,000 feet above us. This object proceeded to circle high above our ship, the cruiser, Tromp, of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
"After reporting it to the officers on the bridge, they were unable to identify it as any known aircraft. After keeping track of this object for about three to four hours, as it flew in big circles and at the same height, the craft suddenly veered off in a tremendous burst of speed (at about 3,000 to 3,500 miles an hour) and disappeared from sight."
We are not done talking about foo fighters. In my next post on this subject we are going to cover more sightings of UFO's, and then start investigating what the allies found in regards to Nazi technology and alien influence at the end of World War II. I'm also going to talk about where the Nazi's got their idea for flying saucers, and how the resulting discoveries by those evil weirdos went farther and stranger than the mainstream, filtered history books give them credit for.
