NEW MASS UFO SIGHTING SENDS CHINESE MEDIA INTO FRENZY, PHOTOS

In China the UFO mega-events are continuing unabated and the last few weeks have been extra-ordinary for that nation's UFO community.

A new mass UFO sighting by millions of witnesses that occurred on January 11 has sent the Chinese media into a frenzy. This event occurred in the western Chinese region of Xinjiang and was seen over a very wide area. Photos have come to light (see below) and film footage is expected to surface.

Witnesses to the event described the sudden appearance of what at first looked like star which shortly turned red before turning green and morphing into an enormous traditional flying saucer shaped object.The UFO was then described as rotating, turning blue and vanishing.

Some witnesses claimed to have seen the UFO land on a mountain before shooting off in an easterly direction. Other witnesses described the UFO initially shrouded in white mist.

Many eyewitness reports have already been collected and can be read in the sources below. The local Astronomy station has declared the object to have been space-junk. Many witnesses however believe that what they saw might have been extraterrestrial in origin.

Best Ufo Book Ever

So... Over the past several months I've been doing some pretty intense work on my book about the career of Dr. J. Allen Hynek, and it's time to talk about what I've been up to. Think of it as my early Christmas present to you.

It was suggested to me over the summer by a knowledgeable person that the opening chapters of the book were not "lively" enough. I rejected this assessment at first, but after giving it some thought I realized that it was in fact spot-on. The book's opening was flat and inert; it presented the right ideas, yes, but did so in a very static way. For some reason, I had been afraid to flex my writing muscles, and that is not the way you want to start a book.

About that same time, seemingly by coincidence, I decided to pay a visit to the beautiful Yerkes Observatory, which is located about a half-hour from where I live and also happens to be where Dr. Hynek earned his Ph.D. in astrophysics in the early 1930s. Before I knew it, strange discoveries started to pop up left and right. I met interesting people who knew fascinating stories about Hynek, and then I found other people to corroborate the stories. Then I scored an interview with Dr. Hynek's son, who was able to fill in countless details of his father's life. As I studied that period in Yerkes' history and in Hynek's life, an amazing over-arching narrative started to take shape, and I realized that I had the key to a "lively" opening to the book staring me right in the face...

And so I embarked upon months of rewriting... And now, armed with a really kick-ass opening to the book, and the guidance of a new friend and mentor who knows his way around the publishing world like no one I have ever met (and who I strongly suspect is a human-alien hybrid), I am ready to take my new and improved book to market. To that end I've written a query letter that I'll be sending out to literary agents over the coming weeks, and I've decided to present some edited excerpts from the letter here for your enjoyment. I'll tell you right now that there aren't any spoilers in the letter, but there area few hints here and there...

Science and mysticism, for all their mutual distrust, spring from the same human desire to understand the universe. In recent times, only one scientist of note has embraced this fact, and has been able to walk both sides of this divide with confidence.

Astronomer J. Allen Hynek (1910-1986) never wanted to be involved in the UFO phenomenon; he was a self-described "innocent bystander" when the US Air Force needed a credible scientist to explain away the baffling UFO sightings sweeping the nation in 1947, but he was in truth the only man for the job.

Huge Rise In British Ufo Sightings

Clusters of up to 100 mysterious objects, bright white lights and strange, triangular shaped objects are just some of a huge surge in UFO sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence last year.

The ministry has opened up its own "X-Files" for 2007, revealing 135 UFO sightings from across the UK.

If aliens are choosing the UK as a holiday destination, it appears it is becoming more popular, as the number if sightings has shot up since 97 were reported in 2006.

Last year the MoD released details of UFO sightings for the first time, including an archive back to 1998. Previously, details of classified reports were kept secret for 30 years. Discs, formations, white or orange lights, triangular shaped craft and pipe-like objects were all spotted buzzing around the sky in 2007.

Message: Hey Brian, just wanted to respond to that Loring AFB incident 1975 Article. She was asking about if anyone knew about it well I kind of do. I lived in Caribou, Maine, which was about 10 miles or so away and visited the base quite frequently. My friend whom I hung around with his father was in the Air Force and worked on the base. He (my friend) told me that his father saw a UFO on the base and told me about the lights and all of that. So, I told him I did not believe him so he got his father outside and I asked him and he hesitantly said no kind of laughing it off. And his son kept on him saying tell him the truth because he the father was always telling him about it. Even his sisters were saying that he saw it so that's all I know about the incident. Thanks.

Ufo Sighting In Clay New York On March 18Th 2015 Looked Out Window For Slim Chance To See Aurora Borealis Saw Instead A Ufo Gliding Pretty Low And Slow

I was watching T.V and it was the night of which there was supposed to be a huge aurora borealis show over even the northern most of the US. So at 12:00AM Wednesday, March 18 2015 (00:00 military time) I turned off the T.V. and tried to look out various windows in hopes of seeing some of the aurora borealis. Instead, out of the second story window, almost directly above the house tops across the street (I live in a house complex) I saw a pink-ish, yellow-ish, white-ish glowing disc shaped object. It looked like your classic UFO but I quickly thought to myself, it can't be a UFO it's got to be a plane there's just no way. But I kept staring at it trying to figure out what it looked like and everything, to kind of try and prove to myself that it was just a plane. But it didnt make sense that there was no noise, it was bigger than a traditional plane, lower than a plane should be, and definitely didn't look like any plane or other flying vehicle I've ever seen before. I then hurried to grab my phone and try to take a video of it, but oddly enough it did not show up on the video, instead exactly where the UFO I saw with my naked eye, was a blurry weird kind of reflective like thing showing up on the video. I then just stared at it with my naked eye and kept recording to the best of my ability without looking at the phone, because I wanted to observe the UFO to the best of my ability and couldn't view it through the video. The UFO looked as if it was glowing, and very slowly pulsated between glowing a very light pink to a light yellow to a white, it would change colors visibly about every 5-15 seconds. It seemed as if it was staying at the same altitude, but it was moving kind of in an elliptical line around my house (from the view I had of it for the quick minute or 2 I had sight of it) not really a straight line, it seemed very close in distance (around a mile away or so would be my guess) and very low in altitude (right above the tree/house line) it went from the right side of my view to the left (sorry, I don't know my directions and do not currently have a compass to provide you with which geographical direction it was moving in) and was consistent in size as it moved across (which is why I say it moved in an elliptical motion rather than a straight line). To the left of my house is a small hill, in which the UFO eventually flew behind the tree line of the hill as it moved to the left side of my view/house and I lost sight of it. The entire duration of which I was able to view the UFO was about 12:03AM to 12:05AM (00:03-00:05).

Norwood Searchlight Incident

Visual Sightings of UFONICAP.org Between the dates of August 19 of 1949 and March 10 of 1950, an almost unbelievable wave of UFO sightings were logged in the Norwood, Ohio area. These visual sightings were of an odd, often stationary object which was witnessed by many ground observers. The Norwood searchlight incident was logged in detail by searchlight operator Donald R. Berger, and is a mainstay of Ufology.It is often said that a sighting's credibility is based upon the reputation of its witnesses. This case was reported by members of the clergy, scientists, police and military officials, as well as civilians. On October 23, 1949 Norwood Police sergeant Leo Davidson took photographs of the unknown objects, and Reverend Gregory Miller took 2 reels of 25 foot motion picture film.The very first reports of a UFO were made during the Jitney Carnival in 1949. There were literally hundreds of witnesses to strange lighted objects in the sky. The next day press reports were made of the sightings. The Cincinnati Post, The Cincinnati Enquirer, and the Cincinnati Times Star all carried a description of what occurred.Some press reports minimized the sighting reports as nothing more than searchlight reflections from the cloud cover. Several churches and at least one theatre were operating searchlights on the first night of the reports. However, sightings were made all night long until daybreak, and it is very unlikely that the searchlights were operating the entire time. One official from the weather bureau made a report of an early morning sighting of "two objects" that appeared to be weather ceiling balloons, but they were motionless, despite winds up to 32 mph.Refuting the searchlight explanations, Berger explained that even when he removed the searchlight from the sky, the brightly lit object was still visible. Berger would intrust his logs to Reverend Miller for five years. At that time, he gave them to UFO researcher Leo Stringfield. The photographs of the Norwood UFO have a very similar look to the ones taken during the Colares Island IncidentRobert Linn, who was managing editor of the Cincinnati Post, along with Reverend Miller, both stated that Berger's searchlight had accidently found a "definite object, and the light only enhanced its view from the ground. They reported this to Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. A Link Between Paranormal Ghosts And Ufos

Recently there have been suggestions that it is possible to travel faster than the speed of light, which takes us almost into science fiction.

But supposing this is true, it then opens up the possibilities that much else we take to be fact, may actually be incorrect. It might mean, for example, that bizarre UFO sightings, like those of Carol and Steve from Gateshead UK, could be true. Even though main stream logic says they are fiction.

Carol and Steve aren't a publicity seeking couple but they have witnessed many weird UFO sightings, which are completely different from the norm.

Steve was working the night shift and Carol was home alone with her three year old daughter. She was restless and couldn't sleep and about 2 a.m she made herself a cup of tea to drink in bed.

While sipping her drink she could see a red light through the curtains. She looked out and saw what she describes as a "cymbal shaped object over the roof tops opposite." The UFO then displayed various coloured lights and sped away into the sky.

Okay, nothing different there to many normal UFO sightings, but more was to follow. As she returned to her bed she heard a sort of rumbling noise and saw the same object - but this time in a miniaturised form, and it was flying inside her room!

The small UFO gave off a trail of glittering specks which made her body tingle. The specks returned to the UFO, which was about 18 inches in diameter, and the craft then left though the door.

The mini UFO returned 13 days later. This time she was in her daughter's bedroom. Again the tingling sensation returned and she screamed out to her husband, Steve. All he saw was a flash of light heading for the window. The craft, or whatever it was, flew through the window and away without causing any damage.

A further four nights later Steve was again on the night shift. Carol and her young daughter went to stay with her mother as she didn't want to be alone.

At about 4 a.m she heard a buzzing noise and her tingling body felt paralysed. The UFO had returned. But something even stranger - and some will say impossible - happened. Twelve weird creatures, but similar to humans, were also in the room. They were about two-and-a-half feet tall and were wearing white suits. Their faces appeared pale, delicate and almost feminine.

Some of the creatures approached Carol, conversing by clicking noises, and looked into her eyes.

This UFO haunting continued for over two months and all of Carol's family felt the tingling sensation. Their dog went into a frenzy whenever the buzzing noise of the vehicle was heard.

Then suddenly the mysterious visitations ceased completely and were never heard again.

At first the story sounds impossible: mini UFOs travelling through solid windows and doors; twelve 2ft 6ins creatures travelling in an 18 inch diameter craft and so on.

For fun, let's make it all the more puzzling and throw in something we would probably class as paranormal.

A well-off businessman from Manchester, UK was staying the night with his girlfriend. He was lying in bed asleep when he felt as if he was being invaded by some strange tingling sensation. It was like the air was filled with electro-magnetism. As he looked about in the darkness he saw that it was 3 a.m. Then he noticed something else.

A figure appeared in front of the window. He saw it was a woman and she looked to be quite solid and real. He noticed her features and clothing in detail and then for some reason he cried out. As he did so the woman faded away.

He woke his girlfriend and told her what he had seen. She immediately knew who the woman was from his description. It perfectly matched her dead mother.

It's interesting how this ghost story has certain similarities to that mini UFO: the tingling, the buzzing noise etc. If we look at ghost and UFO stories they can almost, at times, seem to interlink

It's easy to write off such things as nonsense but, if it turns out we can travel faster than light, we should perhaps open our minds to other possibilities. But I'll leave readers to draw their own conclusions!

Reading Notes Paranormal Beliefs

This post is reviewing Erich Goode's book "Paranormal Beliefs". Goode is a sociologist based at the University of Maryland, and proposes one of the few rigorous analyses of the social dimension of paranormal beliefs. This book does not provide any answer about the reality of paranormal phenomena, although it presents some of the key arguments for and against paranormal beliefs. This book raises a number of interesting questions about how paranormal beliefs emerge, why they remain present in spite of being constantly attacked by the scientific community (and the sceptics), and why science ignores paranormal knowledge in spite of being confronted with challenging evidence.

MOVING FORWARD WITHOUT INNOVATION?

Before analyzing what Goode has to say about beliefs in UFOs, and other paranormal phenomena, it is important to situate his book within the larger context of sociology and parasociology. Goode is very clear about the topic of his book: he is focusing on the sociological dimension of paranormal BELIEFS. Although he does not consider the actual reality of paranormal phenomena as completely irrelevant, he states that he does not pay much attention to such an issue. For him, the actual reality of paranormal phenomena is only relevant in contexts where solid scientific evidence about the paranormal are produced (according to the rules of science, and thus, should be accepted by science), but such evidence are either ignored or rejected without cause by the scientific community. Researches in parapsychology are a key example of such a situation. From that point view, Goode's analysis is very much in line with "Newtonian" sociology, and although he may provide interesting analyses about an understudied topic, it cannot be considered as being innovative. He takes also, in my opinion, a very convenient position as he does not have to "get his feet wet" (i.e. without having to state his own position on the matter) by focusing solely of the belief dimension. However, because he does not dismiss off hand people who believe in the paranormal, like some other sociologists have done in the past, his book deserves some credits.

Goode is approaching paranormal beliefs in the way sociologists of scientific knowledge have studied scientific controversies. He is using the approach called symmetry, which implies that he puts on the same level paranormal beliefs and scientific beliefs (i.e. without granting any uncritical support to either side). As well, he recognizes that one side is dominant in Western societies (i.e. scientific belief) and has powerful social, political and economic bases while the other (i.e. paranormal beliefs) is the "deviant" one with limited support. As a sociologist, he is more interested in studying the dynamics at play, and tries to understand why in the context of scientific dominance there is still a very large portion of the population believing in the paranormal. Once again, his questioning is NOT based on "how can people be so irrational to believe in the paranormal", but rather he implies that scientific beliefs may be dominant among the elites of Western societies, but not necessarily so among the rest of those societies. In other words, he sees this issue as one of knowledge power base divided along social and political class lines. I agree with this perspective. Various forms of knowledge will be considered as more or less valid in great part based on how much social and political power is behind them. For Goode, paranormal belief is therefore an alternate source of knowledge for those who are not powerful.

If Goode is right in stating that the validity of any knowledge is in great part dependent on its social and political power base, it is also important to understand that its validity is also based on how effective it is for people to relate with the world around them (i.e., any form of knowledge has also a pragmatic component). In other words, "deviant" forms of knowledge are not only maintained to assuage psychological needs not addressed by the dominant forms of knowledge (e.g. seeing aliens in replacement of religious forms of spirituality, see ghost because science ignores the spiritual, etc). The key issue that Goode does not address, because he is focusing solely on the social dimension of paranormal beliefs, is the fact that people believe in the paranormal because they are many who did objectively face situations that are incomprehensible to them AND to the scientific community. Although I agree with him that if science would study such phenomena more extensively and find some serious and intellectually honest answers, then the belief in the paranormal would disappear because there would be no need to have an alternate form of knowledge to address what is ignored by science. This holds true for sociology too. If sociology is to provide useful answers, then it cannot ignore that there are some genuine and poorly understood dynamics at play behind paranormal phenomena. This reinforces my conviction that parasociology is a step ahead from "Newtonian" sociology by accepting and integrating, as a matter of principle, that paranormal phenomena have a degree of objectivity.

BELIEFS IN UFOS AS ALIEN SPACESHIPS

Goode pays a fair bit of attention to the UFO phenomenon. For him, UFOs are a paranormal belief when they are construed as being spaceships under extraterrestrial control (because it contradicts what science says about UFOs - particularly the improbability of interstellar travel). Then, he proposes an historical genesis of the belief by reviewing how in the early 1950s the ETH became firmly entrenched (p. 141). His analysis is very similar to the ones of M'eheust (1978) and Spencer (1994), where he identifies that in the early 1950s, a few years before the beginning of the space race, technology was sufficiently advanced to create a "plausibility structure" where the notion of visiting spaceships was imaginable (p. 148).

Another important element of his analysis is that the ETH cannot be falsified. In theory, all UFO sightings, except one, could be proven wrong and that would be enough to prove the ETH is right. It would require disproving ALL sightings, without exception, to refute fully the ETH, which is an unrealistic task. So, the ETH can live on the hope that one sighting will be proven to be of ET origin. The fact that in over 60 years no objective evidence about the presumed ET origins of UFO has yet surfaced is for the ETH believer completely irrelevant. From that point of view, it is clearly a belief system (i.e. it is based on the hope that one day they will prove that the ETH is right). This certainly constitutes the fundamental sociological dynamics behind the ETH.

Goode proposes a similar analysis about the Roswell conspiracy. In spite of having no evidence, that there are at least six versions of the story, that there are seven photographs of the debris that matches the Mogul project description, that Cavitt (who accompanied Marcel) did not see anything unusual about the debris, the ETH ufologists are still pursuing that story in the hope that one day real evidence will emerge. For Goode, the fact that the Roswell story emerged and stuck in the late 1970s is not a coincidence. In the post-Watergate years, the plausibility structure was in place for such a story to get lots of supports (which did not succeed to do so in the past, e.g. Scully's and Keyhoe's books both discussed governmental conspiracy in the 1950s).

It is unfortunate that Goode's book does not address in any length the notion that there is an irreducible minimum of reports that cannot be explained away by science, and that those reports are essentially ignored by the scientific community. Even if one excludes the ETH as an explanation, these very strange reports still remain unexplained. It is therefore a scientific belief to consider all UFO sightings as irrelevant without looking at the evidence. Sturrock's book (1999) is one of the rare exceptions. This situation fuels, in my opinion, the retrenchment of ufologists into the ETH. Because the scientific community does not touch the field, then other non-ETH explanations are not explored. The more the scientific community ignores these reports, the more it creates room for the ETH to flourish.

THE PARAPSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY

Goode is more sympathetic to the cause of parapsychology. Although it is considered a paranormal belief system because it is in opposition to some key scientific beliefs about the nature of reality, parapsychology was able to produce evidence using the scientific method. He quotes many meta-analyses of parapsychological research to show that psi effects occur and are clearly beyond chance. Goode is very clear in stating that "something is happening but no one knows for sure what it is" (pp. 130 & 132). In this case, it is the scientific beliefs in the nature of material reality that are challenged, and ignoring or even ridiculing parapsychology represents an easy way out to avoid dealing with inconvenient evidence.

It is unfortunate that Goode did not discuss an important issue in parapsychology that is very much relevant to the topic. One of the most interesting findings in parapsychology is that psi effects are more likely to occur when people believe in the possibility of the paranormal. In other words, plausibility structures are not only conditions to allow beliefs to emerge, but also conditions for paranormal effects to occur. Hence, plausibility structures are also enabling conditions. These parapsychological findings are at the root of any thinking about the possibility of social psi. Goode, here, missed a great opportunity to link some key elements together. He wrote that "sociologists are very interested in the social 'glue' that binds members of a society" (p. 84). If it is true that belief systems can be a form of social glue, then the objective elements at the core of the belief should also be considered as being part of the glue. In other words, if parapsychology has clearly shown that there is "something" going on, then that "something" should be part of the glue as well because sociologically shared plausibility structures are key enablers to psi effects. Goode's book, by focusing solely on beliefs, failed to see that there is a need to establish a bridge between parapsychology and sociology, and I think that parasociology offers such a bridge. But it is clear that if sociology studies only paranormal belief systems, then sociologists will have only an incomplete approach to understand the paranormal.

Flying Triangles Not New Phenomena

My latest "MYSTERIOUS UNIVERSE" article focuses on one of the biggest controversies within Ufology: the so-called Flying Triangles. Are they classified military craft or vehicles from somewhere else?

Many ufologists who suggest the FTs are ours maintain that's because they have only been seen for the last few decades - chiefly the 1980s onwards. But they're talking crap. If you go looking, you find numerous reports of FTs - "identical" to those seen today - dating back forty to fifty years ago.

And my new "MU" post focuses on one, perfect example. It starts like this:

"As many students of Ufology will be aware, the last couple of decades or so have seen a rise in reports of one particular type of UFO. It has become known as THE FLYING TRIANGLE. The FTs are triangular in shape and very often black in color, hence the name, of course! They often emit a low humming noise, and have a trio of lights on their underside. They usually have rounded corners too, rather than sharply angled edges. And, in some ways, they are not unlike the NORTHROP GRUMMAN B-2 SPIRIT (otherwise known as the Stealth Bomber) in design. This has, quite naturally, given rise to the possibility that the FTs are next-generation Stealth planes, rather than true UFOs. It's not an unreasonable assumption. But there's a problem with that scenario: the FTs are actually not new, or even recent, at all.

"While digging through a whole host of formerly classified files on UFOs at THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES AT KEW, England in 1996, I came across a one-page report dated 28 March 1965 that, I confess, I almost overlooked. On closer inspection, however, I realized that it was potentially one of the most important UFO-related documents that I had ever come across. According to the MoD paperwork, on the night in question a witness saw at approximately 9.30 p.m. over moor-land near Richmond, North Yorkshire, England:'Nine or ten objects - in close triangular formation each about 100ft long - orange illumination below - each triangular in shape with rounded corners, making low humming noise.'"

My colleagues and I will put an end to your cynical criminal silence and inaction after years of hiding the truth about the alien ship. We are also aware of the three alien disks seized in the United States (two-discs in Arizona in May 1953 and another one in California in the summer 1967) and stored since the 1970s and still in the underground base at Area 12, Rainier Mesa, a Nuclear test site in Nevada.

With regard to the current Russian cover-up since the mid-1980s, an alien disk-UAV is in an underground bunker base at SRF-10-Odincovo that is now closed. They are hiding and exploring the unmanned extraterrestrial reconnaissance machine which was discovered and captured in Zagorsk region of Moscow, near the village of Nikulskoe and the arsenal at the landfill by engineering troops back in 1979, after falling into the gorge near power lines, for the "Blue" zone defense of Moscow.

Contrary to popular belief, this craft was NOT hit by a missile, and the disc did not shoot anybody, he fell himself as a result of a domestic accidents. The above is confirmed by numerous witnesses. Scientists from different research institutions, including and from the NGO "Composite were brought to the bunker periodically mainly materials science.

The diameter of the disc is a small, 6-7 (max -8) meters, unmanned. Dome top and bottom - a small projection and 3 supports. Unfortunately the disc has not opened, and researchers do not have access to the interior and the equipment inside the drone has not been removed. Numerous methods were tried and extreme means were rejected in order to avoid the danger of destruction of the disc. Therefore, there has not been a special introduction of alien technology. The Americans with those things are better, because they have access to the inside of the two captured alien discs.

To sum up, I note the reality of the extraterrestrial civilizations with conclusive tangible evidence - not just at Area 12 in the Nevada nuclear test site in the United States, but some specialists now SIC RKT, TSNIIMV (now NPO "Composite"), some soldiers and members of the Strategic Missile Forces Base Odintsovo-10 (Vlasikha). Ufo Sighting In Speedway Indiana On July 26Th 2013 I Saw A Bright Orange Red Object That I Could Not Identify

UFO SIGHTING IN SPEEDWAY, INDIANA ON JULY 26TH 2013 - I SAW A BRIGHT ORANGE-RED OBJECT THAT I COULD NOT IDENTIFY. NEVER HAVE SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN THE SKY.

I was coming home from a ballgame in Indianapolis driving due west. I turned south and noticed a bright orange light in the sky to the east that I'd never seen in that spot. I live in Speedway. I first noticed the object because it was so bright. I first thought it might be a helicopter or a firework. I saw a helicopter to the south and could readily see the difference. I had a CD playing and my windows were closed so I didn't hear anything. It had been sprinkling a little too. I thought okay if this is a firework it is going to descend or make a sound or something, but nothing happened. It just stayed there and glowed very bright orange-red. I thought about phoning my sister who was in the house but I didn't want to take my eyes off of the light so I didn't. I walked up the driveway and the light just diminished and finally vanished without a sound from where I was. I couldn't tell if it ascended and disappeared or disappeared where it was hovering. It disappeared into a tiny dot to nothing. The whole thing lasted no more than 3 minutes. I came in the house and told my sister I had just seen a UFO. It was a UFO to me. I've never seen a helicopter shine orange-red and without flashing lights like the helicopter I saw in the sky at the same time to the south, nor have I seen one be silent. From what I could tell it seemed to pulsate some but stayed bright orange-red. Thank you for being here so I could report this! It didn't upset me, but I will remain puzzled by what I saw.

Ufo Sightings Mufon Cases Colorado Witness Sees Ufo Only In Camera Viewfinder Canadian Pilot Reports Ufo Near Ground Level

December 31, 2014 - NORTH AMERICA - The following constitutes several of the latest cases from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

COLORADO WITNESS SEES UFO ONLY IN CAMERA VIEWFINDER

A Colorado witness at Fairplay reported seeing a Saturn-like UFO on her camera screen that could not be seen with the naked eye, according to testimony in Case 62246 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The event occurred about 1:30 p.m. on December 14, 2014, as the reporting witness and his fianc'e were driving along Highway 285.

"The surrounding area was very beautiful, so she decided take some pictures," the reporting witness stated. "She noticed an object on the screen and she started to try to find it without using the phone and was asking if I could see anything. She realized she could only see it through the camera screen on the phone."

The woman then snapped two photos very quickly: Image 1 and Image 2.

"Neither of us ever did see anything with our naked eyes, but in the photos it appears as if the object was traveling very fast. We were going about 65 mph and the pictures were taken only a few seconds apart, yet the object appears to have moved drastically. We cannot identify this and are hoping someone else can."

Fairplay is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Park County, Colorado, population 679.

Colorado has a current UFO Alert Rating of 5 with a low number of recent reports nationally. Colorado had 5 UFO reports that occurred during November 2014 - calculated at 0.96 sightings per million population.

The UFO Alert Rating System is based on five levels - 1 through 5 - where states with 4.01 or higher reports per million residents are rated an Alert 1; 3.01 - 4.0 reports are an Alert 2; 2.51 - 3.0 are an Alert 3; 2.01 - 2.5 are an Alert 4; and those states with 2.0 or lower are rated an Alert 5.

CANADIAN PILOT REPORTS UFO NEAR GROUND LEVEL

A Canadian business jet pilot approaching Springbank Airport just west of Calgary reported watching a cigar-shaped UFO flying low to the ground, according to testimony in Case 62198 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The pilot was approaching the airport about mid morning on December 17, 2014, when the object was first noticed.

"Approaching from the north, I was approximately 10 miles north of Cochrane flying parallel to and a couple miles west of Highway 22 and descending through 8,500-feet above sea level or about 4,500 -feet above the ground," the witness stated. "It was a bright, sunny morning and I was just looking at the scenery when I spotted a black object along the highway, maybe two miles ahead of me that was moving fast northbound, towards me."

The pilot first thought the object was a fast car and decided to time it to see how fast it was moving.

"After looking at it for a few seconds, I thought I would time it along the section lines on the ground and calculate a speed of this very fast car. Within a few seconds I realized that what I thought was going to be a Corvette, in fact, was a flat black colored, tubular object that was flying low level over the highway. It was cigar-shaped and not flying with the end of the cigar pointing forward but perpendicular with the long edge in the direction of flight."

The pilot was actually getting closer to the object.

"As I was flying south at some 230 knots and the object was coming towards me, the whole encounter happened fast, but fortunately I was getting closer and could get a better look at the craft."

The pilot got a good look at the object.

"As I came above the object, it was wider than the road and difficult to estimate the height, but probably within a couple hundred feet of the ground."

The pilot was approaching Calgary and was approximately 10 miles north of Cochrane flying parallel to and a couple miles west of Highway 22

The pilot was then surprised to see the object disappear.

"Then maybe stranger than actually seeing this object, as it was nearest my position directly off my left wingtip, it vanished within one-half a second. It quickly turned translucent where I could see a blurred image of the field and road through it while it had a darker edge along the outline of the craft. The object very quickly appeared clearer and within a fraction of a second it disappeared from view."

The pilot scanned the ground area trying to locate the object again.

"I had no idea what I had seen and scanned the area around the track the object was flying, thinking maybe it was the top of a wing of a pipeline patrol aircraft that I had seen, and that maybe the aircraft banked and I lost sight of it. Scanning the area it never reappeared."

The pilot then used instrumentation to locate other aircraft in his area.

"I looked at the TCAS (traffic collision avoidance system) display in the cockpit that shows all the aircraft that are being interrogated by ATC radar in the area. And although there were many other aircraft to the south and west, there was nothing on the display near me."

The pilot attempted to judge the size of the object.

"Looking back towards where I last saw the object, I noticed cars on the road heading south and this helped judge the size and speed of the object compared to a 'known ground based object.' The cars were both much smaller and slower than the object and were within a mile of it when it disappeared. The drivers may have seen the same phenomena. I estimate the object as between 50 -80 feet in length and 15-20 feet wide."

The pilot also tried to estimate the object's speed.

"It moved on a steady track and at a constant speed. I mentally timed it at crossing a half-mile in under 12 seconds or around 160 mph, a speed not particularly fast for a small airplane, but faster than what patrol aircraft use when flying low level."

He described the object.

"There were no discernible markings, windows, lights, or other features. Just a flat black, rectangular cigar-shaped object. The entire encounter was at the most 30 seconds long as the closing speed on the object was in the neighborhood of 400 mph."

There were no other witnesses aboard the pilot's aircraft.

"There were several passengers on the aircraft, but they were concentrating on a conversation in the aircraft. I doubt anyone saw the object and I didn't ask as I enjoy my job. Likewise, as the object never showed on my TCAS, there wasn't much point in asking ATC if they noticed anything. Besides it had disappeared at that point."

The pilot compared the sighting to other experiences.

"On a side note, as a pilot with 30 years of experience, I have seen sights and objects which I could always dismiss as meteors, cloud formations, atmospheric phenomena such as inversions, other aircraft, satellites, etc. Even if this object had kept its track, I may have been passed off as some type of UAV, however, as I witnessed from a relatively close range the disappearance of the object, I have no doubt it was something that is either cutting edge top secret military tech or something that I have no explanation of."

The witness was outside in the backyard with a dog when the object was first noticed.

"It was definitely not a blimp," the witness stated. "Too thin; longer than a Boeing 767-300; no lower 'navigation basket/viewing' area; extremely long, thin, cigar shape. No wings; no tail section; no sound and maintained level altitude and moderately slow speed."

The witness described the object's direction.

"Headed towards Sarnia, Ontario, but when it went into a white cloud, it did not come out of the other side of the cloud. It was silver and the sunlight reflected off of it."

The witness watched as the cigar-shaped object moved into a cloud, but did not come out the other side about 4:30 p.m. on December 29, 2014.

The witness was unable to photograph the object.

We previously reported that a Canadian business jet pilot approaching Springbank Airport just west of Calgary, Alberta, reported watching a cigar-shaped UFO flying low to the ground about mid-morning on December 17, 2014, according to testimony in Case 62198.

Newfoundland Ufos Still A Mystery See Photo Ufo Sighting

The unidentified flying objects spotted in January off Newfoundland remain a mystery to the government, despite extensive scrutiny, according to Department of National Defence (DND) documents obtained by CBC News.

The documents contain grainy images of a rocket with a long, fiery tail soaring skyward. The reports rule out missiles and model rockets, but don't suggest what the images might show.

Military experts discredit the possibility of ballistic and cruise missiles. DND's Directorate of Scientific and Technical Intelligence (DSTI) assessed the images and reported: "The object is not a ballistic missile, not a cruise missile in boost phase nor a cruise missile in-flight phase. It is also not a licensed model rocket launcher."

The Jan. 25 sighting happened on the southern coast of Newfoundland near Harbour Mille. Several residents reported seeing the objects, including a woman who was able to photograph one of them. She reported to the RCMP that she had seen three missiles soaring over the ocean and it looked as if they had come up out of the water.

The DSTI says in the documents that the only missiles that can be launched from a submarine are ballistic or cruise missiles, but the country's top arms experts say the object photographed doesn't fit that profile.

"There are no distinguishing features on the object to use for identification... the shape of the flame is atypical of a missile launch," and "the length of the flame is greater than that of the rocket body. This eliminates the possibility that it is a cruise missile jet engine exhaust," said DSTI.

Undetected by Norad

The documents also note that it is the responsibility of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (Norad) to "provide aerospace warning and defence for North America," and that neither that agency, nor Canada Command, had any information on the rockets.

"NORAD and [Canada Command] have no evidence to support this sighting" reads the report.

The RCMP conducted an investigation, but according to the Jan. 28 report, the police didn't have an answer either.

"The RCMP... is calling the event an unexplained sighting."

The documents also say there were no navy ships involved, and no Canadian Forces missile exercises at the time.

The government has blocked nine pages and a several paragraphs of the UFO documents from public release.

One of the lines leading into a blocked-out portion reads, "Media reporting has linked the sightings to..."

At the time there was speculation the rockets may have come from a French submarine near St-Pierre-Miquelon, since a few days later the French government announced test-fires of its new M51 ballistic missiles were successful.

In a phone call Friday, however, the Directorate General of Armament for France said that the ballistic test-fires took place on Jan. 27, and not on Jan. 25, the day of the sightings off Newfoundland.

It is not clear if new information was uncovered about the UFO sighting since Feb. 1, as that date marked the closing time frame for the Access to Information request.

CBC News is awaiting the Department of Public Safety's response to the question of whether or not the UFO was eventually identified.
