AUGUST 09, 2013 - UNITED STATES - Today we're venturing into the realm of the unexplained.

That's the best term to describe what Jeremy White and two cohorts saw early in the morning sky on July 29 down in Pulaski County. It was a UFO, White told me.

By that he doesn't necessarily mean it was flying saucer, or an alien spacecraft. But it sure as heck was weird.

White, 37, is a property manager for a residential landlord in Montgomery County. I've met the guy. He's intelligent, self-deprecating, a rationalist and he doesn't strike me as any kind of kook. He works unusual hours. He relaxes at unusual hours, too.

That explains why he and two pals were cruising through the Snowville area in a car at 1 a.m. on a Monday morning. It's a few miles southeast of Claytor Lake in Pulaski County.

They saw it along Simpkinstown Road near the entrance to Camp Ottari, a large Boy Scouts compound, in a clearing where the camp access road begins. At first, it looked like a brighter-than-normal star or planet; a little bit above the horizon. The entire event took about seven minutes.

"After about 20 seconds, we rounded a bend and there it was, much closer and brighter. It was now a yellow-orange color and seemed to be moving in our general direction. I stopped the car, killed the engine and sat out on the window sill to listen.

"The object moved almost directly over us, somewhat slowly and had changed color again to a deep orange. Even though it appeared to be less than a few thousand feet above the ground, we never heard a sound. I also couldn't actually see a solid object - only the light itself."

White has seen unexplained lights in the sky before, even ones that changed color. But he's never seen what happened next.

"The object stopped moving, changed color to a deep, almost crimson red, split into two separate objects and began moving away from both us (in the same direction it had been traveling) and each other (in a V shape).

"When they had both gotten about 20 degrees above the opposite horizon and what looked like several miles apart, they suddenly zipped out of sight along their then-current trajectories."

A reminder: White's only saying he saw something he cannot explain.

This week I spoke to him about the experience.

He said he was sober as a preacher at a Temperance Union rally. He acknowledged that military flights happen over that area all the time.

After the lights disappeared, he interviewed his companions about what they saw.

"We all saw the same thing," he said. "It was just that bizarre."

I forwarded White's full account - on my blog at http://tinyurl.com/l7cm5ar - to John Goss, this newspaper's astronomy columnist.

It could not have been Venus, Jupiter or Sirius, Goss noted, because all those are below the horizon at 1 a.m. Other factors ruled out meteors or satellites, he added.

"Without more details, I can't say for sure what it was," Goss wrote. But he suggested an explanation: "A military aircraft that could separate into two sections." Specifically, a plane and tanker refueling midflight.

"After the fuel has been dispensed, the two aircraft split. As they depart, the back side of their engines would have been seen, helping to explain the orange glow.

"If it was not a refueling aircraft combination, it still could have been a special modified military plane on a test mission of some sort," Goss said.

That still wouldn't explain why Jeremy White and his pals heard nothing.

He's not alone. Lots of people have such experiences. I did, once, when I was hiking with my wife on Roanoke Mountain. My blog fielded more than a dozen accounts of strange sightings in the sky after I posted White's account.

ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE REALITY OF MODERN CROP PICTURES BY THE SCEPTICS SHOW NO DETAILED KNOWLEDGE WHATSOEVER

Now in addition to this persistent debunking of modern crop pictures by most large media organizations, probably at the behest of governments, there have also been supplementary if somewhat superfluous criticisms by a loosely organized collection of people who call themselves "sceptics". A great many of those sceptical websites can simply be ignored, especially if they cite Wikipedia or the 1991 Doug and Dave story (see below) as proof of their intellectual correctness. Nevertheless, in order to give them a fair hearing, we tried to find the best possible website that advocates pure scepticism regarding modern crop pictures, and came up with the following:

"This is one of the three best sceptical websites, written by Professor Rory Coker of the Physics Department at the University of Texas. Believers in the supernatural wonder of crop circles never bother to take a clothesline and a broomstick, to see how simple it is to make a circle precisely like the ones they find inexplicable" (see www.skeptically.org). Well, there is still nothing there to be concerned about! Professor Coker seems not to have put nearly as much time or effort into studying crop pictures, as for his regular and respected research into particle physics. A little more intelligent argument (intended to debunk Milk Hill of 2001) was given on WATCH, but see time2007j for the true facts of the matter.

Other sceptics have made fairly rudimentary attempts to create authentic crop pictures as a test of the human faker hypothesis. Yet they have never apparently examined the real ones in Wiltshire, in order to understand what they are trying to replicate. Thus all such efforts appear lame at best (see http://web.archive.org). Likewise, the Committee for Sceptical Inquiry proposed four testable hypotheses concerning modern crop pictures in 2002, but none of those seem to be even remotely supported by new field observations as of 2008 (see www.csicop.org/si/2002-09/crop-circles.html).

Trying to find a more recent comment from those sceptics, we found this rather emotional outburst in the Bristol Daily Press on July 30, 2008: Your researcher has no scientific background, and the same counts for all of that other so-called scientific research on crop circles. Researchers like them are only interested in two things: money and attention" (see www.thisisbristol.co.uk). Yet the primary author of this review is a well-respected professional scientist, who has never taken even one cent for his lengthy research into the subject, nor has ever sought any public attention.

One is reminded here of the adage: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a ditch?" In other words, unless someone actually (a) observes the experimental phenomenon first-hand for themselves, or (b) gains a sound idea of the concepts that are being expressed there, then their opinions are essentially worthless: especially if swallowed whole from another third-party source, without applying any critical evaluation as to whether that third party might be telling the truth?

"WE CAN USE EVIDENCE-BASED EMPIRICISM TO FIND OUT THE REAL TRUTH CONCERNING MODERN CROP PICTURES "

The best approach for finding out the truth, concerning any difficult or controversial matter, is known as evidence-based empiricism. It was discussed cleverly by John Locke in his famous "Essay on Human Understanding" (1689), by using the analogy of a king from the tropics who did not believe that water could freeze in far northern latitudes on Earth (see oregonstate.edu):

"A Dutch ambassador was entertaining the King of Siam about certain peculiarities of Holland, and told him among other things that the water in his country would sometimes become so hard in cold weather that men could walk on it, and that it would bear an elephant if he were there. To which the King replied, 'Until now I have believed the strange things you told me, because I look upon you as a sober fair man. But now I am sure you are lying.' "

Well, the pond water does freeze hard in Holland or England during winter, no matter what some king from the tropics might think! And there also are plenty of non-human-made crop pictures that appear mysteriously there in summer. We have seen or studied many of them ourselves, in close experimental detail. Furthermore, we can now understand most of the concepts that they express. The insightful reader may therefore peruse this essay empirically, with regard to detailed experimental facts, in order to decide whether we are telling the truth, or else those sceptics and his TV?

Most academic scientists are sincere, honest people, and not accustomed to dealing with intellectual fraud. Hence the prospect that some ill-defined group of international media organizations might be conspiring, to keep the truth from being publicly known about modern crop pictures, simply terrifies them. Even English scientists who live near Wiltshire are often afraid to go out into the fields to inspect some new crop picture, for fear that the opinion of their peers will turn against them: leaving them unable to obtain research grants, or to publish papers in major journals. That is just what Asch found back in 1951, during his famous conformity experiment!

In any case, since this subject is of great importance for the people of Earth, we will provide below a new and updated synthesis of field data and plausible interpretations for the end of 2008. There should be no need for the casual reader to go back and read lots of earlier work on the subject, although many useful references will be cited wherever relevant. This new synthesis should not be construed to represent anymore than our own considered opinions, having studied the subject jointly for many years, although it seems to be increasingly accepted by others in the field.

Nasa Alien Anomalies Caught On Film A Compilation Of Stunning Ufo Fo

This compilation includes many of my favorite NASA UFO encounters/sightings that I have archived over the years. All of these examples (with the exception of the second-to-last one) were captured on film by NASA astronauts or Russian Cosmonauts over the past half-century - showing many amazing examples from different eras - Gemini, Apollo, Apollo/Soyuz Test Project, Skylab, STS, the ISS, plus a couple Russian-source additions from their unmanned Zond and Mir Space Station programs as well thrown in to round things out.

The second last example is the only one in the compilation that features footage that was not taken in space and is not official-source (NASA or Soviet/Russian Space Agency). That clip shows an LTP (Lunar Transient Phenomenon) event captured through a camera connected to the eyepiece of a terrestrial-based telescope that luckily was being focused on the Moon at the time. In this case, the LTP manifests as an object transiting across the face of the lunar disc. Many thanks to amateur astronomer Alberto Mayer of Italy for doing a wonderful job of filming this stunning event (and for stacking the footage for us all to see).

While the examples you will see here captured on film can all be "officially" classified as "unidentified" objects, that absolutely does NOT mean that NASA, the DoD, and certain elements within the scientific community worldwide are completely in the dark as to what these things you are seeing are. Make no mistake: The Powers That Be are indeed aware of far more about our mysterious Universe than they are ever willing to admit to us. We, the plebeian masses of this planet, are being held in a state of enforced ignorance, deemed not worthy of knowing the full truth by those who are REALLY "running the show" down here on Earth. As this video shows over and over again however, there are indeed snippets of that amazing truth that have been left scattered about the official government archives over the decades, there for us to find so we may begin to educate ourselves about what is the most monumental coverup in human history - where the only thing more incredible than the lies is the truth!

I RETROSCENA UFOLOGICI DELLA SETTA SUICIDA AMERICANA

Il principale spunto per parlare operate degli UFO e dell'ufologia nell'ultima settimana `e stato naturalmente il suicidio collettivo in California di 39 adepti di una setta pseudo-ufologica. Ne hanno ampiamente ed esageratamente parlato tutti i heap media degli ultimi sette giorni, da quando mercoled`i 27 marzo sono stati trovati i cadaveri in una boarding house di San Diego. Ci limitiamo quindi a riportare alcuni retroscena poco noti e qualche commento.

Il fondatore e animatore del gruppo era il sessantaseienne Marshall Applewhite, personaggio gi`a ben noto a met`a degli anni '70 quando con la sua compagna girava in auto gli Stati Uniti per bill conferenze e trovare proseliti per un movimento denominato Metamorfosi Umana Individuale, predicando la prossima due del mondo da cui sole un gruppo di eletti sarebbe stato salvato dagli UFO. Al fatidico appuntamento, per`o, gli extraterrestri non si erano presentati, il mondo non era finito e "i due" predicatori erano spariti con tutti i soldi dei loro ingenui seguaci. La vicenda ebbe ampio risalto sui giornali [Newsweek, 20 ottobre '75] e fu oggetto di attenzione degli studiosi (ne hanno parlato anche vari libri editi in Italia, fra cui "Dei dell'Acquario" di Brad Steiger, e "Messaggeri di illusioni", di Jacques Vallee).

Di "Bo e Twitter" (cos`i si facevano chiamare) non si era pi`u saputo nulla, fino al recente tragico epilogo, ma il "astute spaziale" aveva proseguito le attivit`a anche dopo la morte della compagna, ed aveva raccolto un nuovo gruppo di seguaci (chiamato stavolta "Porte del Cielo" e finanziato con attivit`a di consulenza informatica). Il sistema di credenza della setta era basato sull'attesa del momento in cui avrebbero potuto abbandonare il corpo fisico per trasferirsi su un'astronave aliena che li avrebbe portati su un altro pianeta. Il segno celeste che ha precipitato le cose `e stata l'apparizione della cometa Hale-Bopp che - secondo voci breach nel sottobosco para-ufologico americano, di cui abbiamo gi`a riferito - sarebbe accompagnata da una gigantesca astronave.

Alcuni studiosi hanno apertamente accusato proprio chi ha irresponsabilmente diffuso la storia del "misterioso compagno della cometa" di aver contribuito al suicidio. In realt`a, nell'ambito di certe sette pseudo-religiose, anche gli eventi pi`u innocenti possono essere interpretati in maniera imprevedibile, e va sole bene che nel nostro paese i conductor dei pochi movimenti neo-religiosi che si ispirano agli extraterrestri (pur non disdegnando di tanto in tanto previsioni di apocalissi, regolarmente mancate) sono finora sembrati pi`u interessati a portarsi a letto le proprie seguaci che a suicidarsi.

Non pochi studiosi hanno invece espresso la preoccupazione che la vicenda contribuisca a mettere in cattiva luce l'intero argomento ufologico, mischiando indebitamente agli occhi del pubblico chi studia seriamente il fenomeno e chi invece ne trae spunto per soddisfare mal riposti bisogni di spiritualit`a o addirittura farsi i soldi alle spalle degli ingenui e creduloni.

ARRIVA ANCHE L'ASSICURATORE

A tal proposito merita ancora segnalare che sulla vicenda `e piombato cultivate un avvoltoio il noto assicuratore inglese, gi`a assurto alla ribalta delle cronache per il falso risarcimento miliardario ad un falso rapito dagli UFO, il quale `e arrivato a sostenere (contro ogni logica, tranne quella auto-promozionale) che il gruppo americano si era assicurato presso di lui proprio contro il rischio di essere rapito ed inseminato dagli alieni. A differenza della sua precedente bugia, prontamente sbugiardata dagli ufologi inglesi, stavolta tutti quelli che potevano smentirlo sono morti. Anche questo `e un segno dei tempi: non `e tutto UFO quello che luccica, ma spesso diventa oro per chi vuole approfittare dell'attuale moda degli UFO.

FALSIFICATI DOCUMENTI UFFICIALI AMERICANI SUGLI UFO

Scandalo negli Stati Uniti per la recente scoperta che uno dei pi`u noti e citati documenti ufficiali americani sugli UFO `e stato in realt`a contraffatto.

L'ufologo Robert Todd, pioniere da vent'anni nella caccia ai documenti segreti militari tramite la Legge sulla libert`a di informazione, ha infatti trovato l'originale di un documento dell'USAF classificato "segreto" e redatto nell'ottobre 1947 dall'ufficio del generale George Schulgen, capo dei servizi segreti dell'U.S. Air Strength of character, per sollecitare agli addetti militari all'estero l'invio di notizie di avvistamenti locali di dischi volanti.

In his Kodachrome documentary, Adam Dew interviews a man (and since his name is well known, I see no point in repeating it here) who was in Roswell in 1947 who said that the body in the slides resembled that he had seen in Roswell. Dew doesn't give the name (though we all know it now) and said that he had been a lieutenant. The Yearbook produced by Walter Haut in 1947 has a picture of the man and shows that he was only a PFC, a low-ranking enlisted man.

Here's what the records tell us. He served from March 14, 1946 to September 15, 1966 and that he retired from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant (E-6). He is technically a veteran of WW II since the war wasn't declared officially over until later in 1946. He does have a military pension but there is nothing in the record to show that he was ever commissioned. He arrived in Roswell on October 10, 1946 as a PVT (E-2) and on January 27, 1947 was promoted to PFC. On November 17, 1947 he was promoted to corporal (E-4) which is the lowest of the NCO grades (For those interested in these things Specialist (Spec 4, E-4) is not an NCO and technically a corporal outranks a Specialist).

His military career was honorable but not spectacular (as we can say about almost everyone). He apparently served in French Morocco, England and Greenland. His awards and decorations are those than everyone would receive during a military career.

So, where did Dew get the idea that he had been a lieutenant? I don't know. Everyone who has interviewed him, with the exception of Dew, seemed to understand that in 1947, during the events in which we are all interested, he was a PFC. He ended his career as an NCO. Dew must have misunderstood something and the only place I have ever seen him referred to as an officer is in Dew's preview of his documentary.

Although an exaggeration or inflation of a military rank would certainly be cause to question a witness testimony, in this case, it seems to be a mistake made by Dew rather than by the soldier. At any rate, it is quite clear that he was not a lieutenant in Roswell in 1947, that he was never a lieutenant and that he retired as a technical sergeant.

Does the ghost of Abe Lincoln haunt the White House?

This is our second episode/post in our Mysteries series. I know this is a step away from everyone's favorite subject of Bigfoot, but maybe a little break is good for us.

In this post we will be talking about Abe Lincoln or better yet, the ghost of Abe Lincoln and the persistent tales of Lincoln hanging around the White House.

Grace Coolidge

Grace Coolidge, the wife of president Calvin Coolidge, is thought to be the first person to come forward and tell about seeing the ghost of Lincoln during her time at the White House. She reported seeing Lincoln in the Oval Office. She described Lincoln as looking out the window across the Potomac and that there was a sadness in the air.

While Mrs. Coolidge may have been the first to report seeing Lincoln, she sure wasn't the only one to report seeing and hearing him. There are numerous reports of foot steps and knocking that has been reported over the years.

Mary Eben, secretary to Eleanor Roosevelt, claimed to have seen Lincoln sitting on the edge of the bed putting on his boots. She also admitted to running out of the room screaming after seeing the ghost. Even Theodore Roosevelt claimed to have see Lincoln in the White House. Numerous staff members for various Presidents has all reported hearing and seeing Lincoln.

Winston Churchill

There are also reports of Lincoln's ghost being seen outside of the White House, but maybe the most famous and entertaining account of Lincoln's ghost was by Winston Churchill. Churchill was staying in Lincoln's bedroom while a guest at the White House. After taking a bath and drying off, Churchill lit a cigar and walked totally naked into the bedroom. Once in the bedroom Churchill saw the ghost of Lincoln leaning up against the fireplace. The rarely shaken and quick thinking Churchill greeted the ghost with "Good evening, Mr. President. You seem to have me at a disadvantage." Churchill stated Lincoln smiled and faded away.

It seems the ghost of Lincoln is not just confined to the White House grounds. Reports of Lincoln's ghost have also been reported at his grave site in Springfield, IL. Lincoln has also been said to haunt a house of a woman who was at the Ford's Theater when he was shot.

Willie Lincoln, the son of Abe Lincoln, died in the White House at the age of 11 of Typhoid. His ghost has also been reported several times over the years. Could this be one of the reasons his father Abe is still seen around the White House?

We know that the White House is full of secrets and at various times little tidbits of these secrets leak out. Just how many more sightings of the ghost of Lincoln have there been? We may never know for sure, but we will be waiting and watching for the next little leaked report to surface.

Gilmer, Texas, December 21st approximately 3:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Father was very ill, lung cancer. He relied on oxygen machine, the kind that's plugged into the wall. A few weeks earlier we had a storm and electricity went out. We scrambled to get his portable oxygen. Scary situation. Weather reports said we would be having storms coming in so I decided I would go to my house, (staying with my father providing care) and get my generator, get it ready just in case. I hooked up my father's utility trailer and traveling east on Highway 154, just after passing FM 852, a few cars backed up in some light traffic so I was barely moving and something caught my eye in the upper left of my windshield. I lean forward and see it's four or five black birds. Then I see just to the right of where the birds were, directly up and very, very low, 5-7 large white circles/spheres. They were so white it reminded me of a white balloon, the kind that is a little fluorescent looking. These spheres were very low and maybe the size of a volkswagon or a little bigger. They were somewhat stationary but then started slightly moving/intermingling then just to the right of the spheres started appearing numerous white triangles. Each triangle joined together perfectly and made three rows. The outer triangles, the way they looked joined together, appeared they made a complete circle of triangles from my angle. The triangles were fully suspended, not moving at all. No sound/noise. I noticed as the triangles were forming and joining there was only maybe two spheres left; like they were changing into these triangles and multiplying like times 10. Since I was driving slowly at the time I viewed this maybe 15-20 seconds. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I pulled over at what use to be the speedy pantry and turned around, driving back and looking up didn't see it, so turned around on FM 852 and drove slowly looking up where I had seen it and it was no longer there. To this day when I pass through there I still look up. "Describe your feelings, reactions and actions during and after sighting the object?" Well, I wasn't afraid. I was just dumbfounded and in disbelief. I remember reaching for my phone then remembering my phone hadn't been working since the end of November. I could answer an incoming call by flipping the phone open but couldn't dial out, couldn't text, couldn't retrieve contacts, none of the buttons worked. My sister and I were so busy taking care of our father it wasn't a priority to get it replaced at that time. I only told a few people about it since it happened. Didn't want to be labeled a "nut". Even thought about calling the Sheriff's Office and talking to some deputies I know to see if anyone else reported anything. Checked the paper(s) to see if any other sitings. Did a lot of online searches to see if anyone else saw what I saw. I made a hand drawing of what I saw. I also remember when driving thinking, I am now under this thing and then trying to look back to see if I could still see it. Did a google earth search to see just per chance was there anything there at one time. There is something that looks like a sun flare but that is it. I guess there is a number of reasons I didn't report it at the time. Not sure really who to report it to or if I should. Not wanting to be labeled, still dealing with the loss of my father since Feb., and having no photo or video of what I saw, people might not believe me. Okay, I've reported it and hope this is never used against me in the future. (lol)
